A fan of this site informed me this morning that there is a Lutheran blog site in England that featured a post in which there was a comment made criticizing Cyberbrethren for its lack of a blogroll. I must confess it was a fair point, even if offered in a bit of a less than charitable manner. And I frankly regret that a friend of Cyberbrethren seems to have been a bit too zealous in his commenting there.

I decided to roll up my cyber-sleeves and try to figure out how to get a blogroll up on this site. And I did it. Now, I must hasten to say that if your blog site is *not* on this blogroll, I do apologize. If you wish to nominate your blog site for inclusion, please feel free to do so. As you can see, I favor, nearly exclusively, Lutheran-specific blog sites. Alas, so many blogs, so little time.

    Pastor McCain ~
I’ll just bet that most of your readers who have blogs of their own don’t have issue with this. I would venture to guess that you have bigger “fish” to fry than maintaining a blogroll. Besides, there’s not a contest to see who can get on Cyberbretheren’s blogroll, is there? LOL!
Thank you for all you do!

    Blogroll update

Update: This seemingly-innocuous little post seems to have caused more than its fair share of flapdoodle. Apologies in particular to Pr McCain for the distraction he has suffered relating to the whole question of blogrolling.

Pr McCain, please accept my apologies for the discussion that took place on my site. I’m truly baffled as to how an innocuous post about some spring-cleaning on my sidebar gave rise to the discussion that followed, and am dismayed that you should have had to be troubled by all this. But thank you for the link on your own blogroll! :-)

It’s amazing, what criticism–and what passionate criticism at that!–a person sets himself up for by having a blog.
Not only criticized for what is done (and posted), but for what is left undone.
It’s also amazing how quickly rules of the road have come to exist in the blog-world. It only aids in proving we are, at heart, creatures of the law–law-keepers, law-breakers, and helpless accusers.

My sincere apologies, Revd McCain, for the ridiculous comment over there. My big mouth and an emotionally distressing evening got the better of me. It was actually not at all intended to be a criticism of your fine blog (I couldn’t offer fair comment in any case since I don’t actually read it) nor your blogrolling policies. What I was so poorly intending to get across was simply that a blog author should feel free to blogroll whomever he or she wants. I was reacting to the repeated cajolings of an anonymous fan of yours on number of comment threads, such as “If you would read Cyberbrethren regularly you might temper your enthusiam…,” etc. My intent was not to offer criticism or even suggest anyone needs a blogroll. But that it really ought not to matter in the end. It’s the author’s blog after all. But it certainly wasn’t my place to make that observation, nor frame it in the poor manner I did. My apologies if I have caused any distress.
McCain: Pastor Humann, thanks for your apology. I forgive you. It’s forgotten. No distress here, actually, just a good nudge to do what I’ve wanted to do for sometime, get a blogroll up and running. A blessed Eastertide to you.

I would hope to see more discussion generated at the Concordia Seminary Lection at Lunch Forum. Exegisis and Theology applied to preaching.
