Fan of the Cardinals! You bet, but not these guys

Cardinalmccain
Apparently there has been a serious misunderstanding. I told a friend I was a fan of the Cardinals and he took that remark to heart to a disturbing degree!  I don’t know if red is my color, or not. My wife looked at it and after laughing hysterically for a moment said, "You look good as a Catholic." I’m not sure how to take that remark.

OK, let me make this point clear. I’m a fan of these Cardinals. Mlbcardinals

    Be afraid.
    Be very, very afraid.
Now my only question is: Is this a transparent or opaque avatar?

I never saw his office at the seminary, but one of my many fond memories of Grandpa Surburg (a.k.a. the late Rev. Dr. Dr. Dr. Raymond Surburg) was a bust of Martin Luther sitting on his desk at home wearing a Cubs cap. With all due respect to Pastor McCain and his geographic bias, I think a brief of review of baseball history over the past century makes the conclusion unavoidable: a true theologian of the cross has to be a Cubs fan.
McCain: Well, I would be willing to go as far as to say that Cubs fans do know what suffering is all about better than we Cardinal fans.

I’m always afraid of funny guys who own photoshop! This was great… I had a good rolling laugh.
The Cubs definately cling to passive faith and are never tempted to depend on their works for justification…
Alotta Sola Fide in that team right now. =P

Your picture makes me think of the old Monty Python TV show.

I’m sorry, but after living in Cubby territory (and one time dating a Cubs fan) I do not believe that being a Cubs fan can compare to theology of the cross. Instead, I believe it is more similar to monasticism. Cubs fans take what is good about baseball and squeeze it dry, and then take pride that their sufferings will somehow make up for everything else.
    Go Dodgers!

Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms.
McCain: Hmmmm…somebody has been having too much fun with Google!

Memorized Monty Python skits in college. I can sing the “Lumberjack Song” if you want.

As a Cubs’ fan, I recognize not only the theology of the cross we must bear (as opposed to the theology of glory of last year’s Cardinals), but also remember the Cubs’ having the most doctrinally correct team of all time in 1989. Their third baseman was Vance LAW and their first baseman was Mark GRACE. Harry Caray often broadcast sound Lutheran theology over the radio when a groundball was hit, “That went from LAW to GRACE.” How can you call yourself a Lutheran and not go for that??

Yes, but do you know the “Philosopher’s Song?”
