Concordia Fort Wayne Library Expansion Project
September 11th, 2008
I was really impressed by the plans for the much [desperately] needed library expansion project at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. You'll be hearing a lot more about this in the coming months. Please be prepared to support this project. It looks fantastic!

I’m glad that someone’s paying attention to the architecture of the place. That library looks beautiful, especially all the indoor seating facing the lake, and the outdoor terrace areas. Classically modern architecture is much derided; it’s so hard to do well, but the FW seminary campus is a crowning achievement of good modern architecture.
At my secular Architecture school, the seminary campus was often used as a case study of modern architecture that uses the pattern language of medieval and ancient architecture.
How do I find out who the architects are?
As a current student, I don’t really care about the updated library. I would rather the money be spent on financial aid or child care. With all of the electronic resources available the update is not necessary. Plus I like the library the way it is.
I agree with Steve. I am also a student at the Seminary and while I think that proposed building is very nice to look at I am not sure it is the wisest way to spend money. In an age when class sizes are dropping because of the over $400.00 a credit hour tuition and they are cutting programs left and right to save money I feel that there are more beneficial ways to spend that amount of money. What good is an expanded library if there are no students that can afford to go to the school and use it.
I believe the architect for the Fort Wayne campus was Eero Saarinen, who, if I’m not mistaken, is the guy who designed the Arch in St. Louis.
About time they get themselves a decent library. ; )
