“I’ll pray, but don’t worry, it won’t be Christian” — well, at least he is honest about it.

To
make up for inviting evangelical pastor Rick Warren to give the prayer
at the inauguration, Barack Obama has invited the gay episcopal bishop
Gene Robinson to offer a prayer at an earlier inauguration event. See this. What gets me, though, is this comment from the bishop:
Bishop Robinson said he had been reading inaugural
prayers through history and was “horrified” at how “specifically and
aggressively Christian they were.”“I am very clear,” he said, “that this will not be a Christian
prayer, and I won’t be quoting Scripture or anything like that. The
texts that I hold as sacred are not sacred texts for all Americans, and
I want all people to feel that this is their prayer.”

Well, Bp. Robinson, truth is that any prayer at all to a deity could be “offensive” (in a hyper-sensitive sense of the word) to atheists. Or even a clergyman playing a role in the inauguration of a U.S. President (will you be there in vestments?). So, if you really want to maximize sensitivity, and “separation of church and state”, then you shouldn’t participate at all.
What’s more, why do you think that President-elect Obama is inviting you to come and give a prayer on his inauguration? Because he likes you as a person? No, it’s because you’re a high-level U.S. representative of Christianity (a *very* different ‘branch’ of Christianity than what Pr. Warren represents).
Well, Genie-boy, if it’s not Scriptural, it’s not MY prayer!
What else could be expected from a grossly and defiantly unrepentant sinner?
What should we expect from a PE who sat through 20+ years of fiery anti-American grenade-sermons preached by Jeremiah Wright. His choice of clergymen is very telling.
Give me a good Lutheran pastor who I *know* won’t ask God to damn my country, but to Bless it.
“Bishop Robinson said he had been reading inaugural prayers through history and was “horrified” at how “specifically and aggressively Christian they were.””
Horrified indeed. He should be, as an apostate/heretic. May God have mercy on his soul.
Well, Robinson may be a bishop but at least we know he isn’t Christian.
“So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” (Mt 10:32-33)
‘Nuf said.
WOW … I cannot believe that is what a “BISHOP” (aka Overseer of the Church of God) would say … “this will not be a Christian prayer.”
Prayer:
“God have mercy on his soul and bring him to true repentance thru the Holy Spirit. Christ is Lord!”
The church in Laodicea will be so proud of their Bishop.
The Episcopal Church might as well not even consider themselves Christian since it appears that the heretical teachings and lack of the Gospel from people like John Spong are the norm.
I have often found that the Church of England allowing many theological positions to be held is disturbing and this is obviously the case in the Episcopal Church.
Why don’t they just go and call themselves the Pluralistic Morality Society with some Apostasy.
What gets me is that anti-christs like Robinson and Spong are completely at ease taking a salary that derives from tithes and offerings given to promote God’s word and worship. These hypocrites then undermine and destroy the very thing that gives them sustenance, and subvert the purpose for which the gifts are given. A total lack of integrity permeates these guys. While the term heretic is often mis-used, in these two cases it certainly applies. The fact that Robinson is not immediately defrocked shows that the hierarchy of the Episcopal Church in America is actively foisting an anti-christian agenda on the Church. Meanwhile their English superiors are suffering a complete lack of courage by not taking action and forcing the issue. God bless those African Bishops that havve stepped in to shepherd faithful congregations.
If the Bishop is truly concerned about offending those who don’t share his views, how does he think this will make America look in the eyes of African Christians, Anglicans in particular? He knows how “divisive” his appointment to Bishop is, and how alienating it is to many Anglicans around the world. And yet here he is participating in the inauguration of a U.S. president? Isn’t the liberal-left supposedly deeply concerned about whether or not peoples of other nations like us?
And so, once more, the internal inconsistency of the liberal left shines forth. Their rhetoric is a meaningless smokescreen for their true intentions, which is to promote a leftist agenda. Whether they offend some group, or whether America is respected, is irrelevant to them, UNLESS the group being “offended” agrees with their agenda, in which case it’s VERY important to have “sensitivity” to it. See how the game is played?
Mr. Kyle,
I am in complete accord with you on this. A few years ago I spoke with an Anglican Vicar who was a member of the churches who broke away from the Episcopal Church. I hope that after he told me that he thought Bishop Frank Griswold was a good man, that Griswold’s theology won’t infect the Anglican Communion as he was one of the main proponents behind the ordination snafus in the Episcopal church (First women and then Heretics like Robinson.) May God grant the African Sheperds strength on the watch for the wolf!
