First Come, First Served or A Word to the Wise Re: The Lutheran Study Bible
The large kit of promotional materials is making its way to you, even as I key in this message. I expect that Lutheran congregations will start receiving it already this week, and for sure by the end of the month. So, be looking for it. It’s important. May I offer a word of advice? Place your orders for The Lutheran Study Bible, now, not later. Why do I say this? Two reasons:
(1) Based on the ever growing “volume” of incoming questions, comments, and all around excitement, it is clear that The Lutheran Study Bible is going to be big, as in B I G, big.
(2) Based on the accelerating pace of pre-publication orders, it appears to be the case that the first print run of The Lutheran Study Bible will be going fast, and based on the complexities of paper supplies, we can not guarantee delivery of the Bible before Christmas once the first print run is out.
I highly recommend therefore that you and your congregation get orders in as soon as you can and basically “take a number” and get in line, for we will be shipping Bibles as the orders were received: first come, first served. So, just a word to the wise.

Did you draw that yourself? It’s very good, and gave me a much-needed laugh for the day.
@Sue Kreft
Sadly, I think the drawing is what finally got through to me to preorder my copy!
Thank you for the nudge — I would like to pre-order my copy tomorrow. A few questions:
1. Can we get the bonded leather Sangria large print thumb-indexed?
2. I was thinking of choosing silver for my imprint. If I do that will the spine also be silver? I would like my imprinting to match the spine so if the spine is gold that’s what I will order for my imprinting.
3. I am thinking of putting my name on line 1. Any suggestions on what to put on line 2? THANK YOU for your blog and for all you do in service to our Lord!

@Brenda Higley
Hi Brenda,
(1) No. There is no thumb indexing possible in the larger print editions, not enough outside margin space in the larger print editions.
(2) No. The spine is only gold foil.
(3) Sometimes people put their baptismal date on that line.
Thanks for the kind word of encouragement!
Paul
Thank you Pastor McCain — the baptismal date is a great idea — that is what I will do!
And thanks for solving my dilemma on what kind of imprinting to choose — it shall be gold!
Best,
-Brenda
Last night I sat down with a tape measure and your listed sizes.
It appeared that the “larger” print Bible would be somewhat larger than my Treasury of Daily Prayer. Since that is as big a book as I want to handle, I will opt for “regular” hard cover copies.
For myself, I will get a sheet magnifier. (The children shouldn’t need one for awhile yet.)
I am making this comment in case it will assist anyone else in their decision, and so that you can correct me real quickly, if I am wrong in my assumptions.
