“Let us not abuse the Gospel by giving in to tolerance and stripping the cross from the Gospel so that God’s answer is the shrug of His shoulder instead of the spilling of His blood… yet at the same time let us not be judgmental or delight in the failures of others or we will prove that the Pharisees have not gone away but are merely called by a different name today…”

Grace is not grace without sin. This is good. Ironically, Christ did bear our sins. The root word for tolerate or tolerance is a Latin word that means to carry or bear….tolerare.

I think part of the problem of turning the Gospel into “tolerance” is a Lutheran tendency to exaggerate the distinction between Law & Gospel until it becomes the utter division of Law & Gospel.
