Bach – what a towering master. I have always found it very interesting that his vast (and exceedingly beautiful) musical production at the reformed court of Anhalt-Cöthen was largely (almost exclusively) secular. Could it be that the early, hyper-reformed prohibition on instruments in church led to a proliferation of secular or non-liturgical music? Schade, eigentlich…..
