I Have Accepted Jesus….
December 16th, 2009
I found this on a Roman Catholic apologetics site and enjoyed it. We Lutherans who confess the manducatio oralis [oral eating] of the body and blood of Jesus should enjoy it. It is a jarring reminder of how the classic and orthodox understanding of Christ’s actual presence in the Eucharist is not merely or only a “spiritual” presence.

Why is it that many Christians (including Lutherans) find it completely acceptable to “experience” Jesus through their emotions but they reject “experiencing” Jesus in the bread and in the wine? The first is subjective while the second is objective. Of course, this is nothing new.
I think the phrase “I have accepted Jesus” sounds strange. He has accepted us. That seems to be the major thought. Through His accepting and dying for us sets us free to accept that.
It makes a great point, but it would be more accurate if it said “received” instead of “accepted.”
McCain response: Ah…Kaleb…the point was to do a send-up of the “Have you accepted Jesus?” crowd.
