Some years ago a printed devotion, I think it was, drew this analogy: To train its agents to spot counterfeit currency, a federal agency did not try to familiarize its trainees with the countless types of counterfeits, but rather had them devote themselves to the detailed examination of the few types of authentic bills in circulation. It was their thorough knowledge of what was authentic that made the agents very effective in spotting all kinds of fakes.

For me, the basic Law/Gospel distinction has provided a helpful lens for examining a variety of religious perspectives. Whether dealing with matters as fundamental as justification or as multifaceted as church practices, I find clarity on a point of view by simply asking, "In whom do you trust?"

An excellent article. Another "movement" which is afflicting the church and its mission is the "Insider Movement" which is seriuosly compromising the uniqueness of the Lord Jesus Christ, especially with reference to Islam.

Wonderful article! I've seen the "fad chasing" in the last church I attended. Prior to embarking on the paroxysm of "40 Days of purpose" several years back, I mentioned preaching the whole gospel, forgiveness of sins, and new life in Christ might be what people need to hear. The response from some was that everyone already knew about that and we should move on as a church to be relevant to the community. (Sighs in despair).

Love the photo! Such a mess almost consumed my study at one point, but as shown here the Ikea "Ivar" shelving valiantly stood firm in the chaos and eventually things were put right!

Thanks for the blogging, always something good here, God bless!

A very sobering, hard-hitting, well articulated, astute analysis on the evangelical "heart condition". I must post-cross this one, as it needs the widest possible audience in my opinion.
