Thanks for the links. Looking through the sampler, I noticed this statement on page 230: “There is no need to urge believers to do good works. Their faith generates good works automatically.”
That puzzles me because several Bible passages — especially among the letters of Saint Paul — do indeed “urge” believers to do certain good works. Hebrews 10:24 would also seem to apply.
How does one reconcile Walther’s statement with those Bible passages?

Thanks so much for this book. We’re on vacation now visiting my wife’s folks; Bonnie’s grandmother ( a life-long ELCA member) saw the book and has been reading it as if it were water to a parched soul. I keepy trying to give it to her; I’m hoping I get to come to you folks for another copy!!
