I had the joy today of reviewing a beta of the next version of the very popular PrayNow iPhone App. We are rolling out a major update that will make it fully native on the iPad, and will add great new features, the best of which is populating Matins, Vespers and Compline with the days propers and readings and writing and prayer! Awesome. Also, note taking functionality and more extensive bookmarking is being added.

Here are several screen shots. As always if you click through a couple times, you will see the actual size images as they were captured on my iPad.

Screen Shot #1: Here is how PrayNow 2.0 displays readings in horizontal columns, on the iPad.

Screen Shot #2: Here is how PrayNow 2.0 displays the readings for the day within Matins, and will do the same for Vespers and Compline.

Screen Shot #3: Here is how PrayNow 2.0 displays the readings for the day when you choose to display in large print typesize

    Are you developing any apps for the Droid? I am getting one (Verizon Customer).

      No, sorry, at this point we are aiming our limited resources for Apps at the Apple market.

    Paul, when will the update be available, or a guestimate? Will it be a free upgrade to the one we already bought for our iPads or is there cost involoved? Harvey

      Hello Harvey,

      Anyone who has already purchase the App will automatically receive the update, for free, and my best guestimate on when it will be available is by the end of September, hopefully sooner though.

      I’ll let folks know when the update goes live in the iTunes store.

    I agree with the other commenter…I can’t wait to see the Droid App. I think it is a big mistake to ignore that market. Till then, I guess there is at least one reason to pick an iPhone over a droid….

    @Mike Rose
    Mike, we do not have unlimited resources, like huge publishers, and so we have to focus our efforts on the largest market, and that, at this point, is still very much Apple and its various devices. We have and will continue to monitor the Android market carefully. With the movement of the iPhone out into other carriers in the USA, probably next year, there will be an ever greater surge in Apple customers across various US cellular carriers. Time will tell.

    any fix on the switching between readings and orders?

    • August 18th, 2010 at 17:05 | #9

      Jim, if you take a closer look at my post, and the screen shots, you’ll see the readings are embedded into the prayer offices at the appropriate day.

    I know you’ve answered this already so this isn’t a question but I just wanted to cast another vote for an Android app. Just got a Droid X last month and would love to have this app on there. I have an iPod touch with the app on it already, but I don’t carry it with me as frequently as I have my phone with me…..someday I suppose :)

    My Droid can handle books in either Kindle or ePub formats, so you should still be able to download CPH material in either of these formats.
