New Compact Editions of The Lutheran Study Bible: A First Look
The Concordia Publishing House Fall Bible promotional campaign continues and featured in this effort are two new editions of The Lutheran Study Bible: compact editions, with two different styles of cover. What is a “compact edition” of The Lutheran Study Bible? It is an exact duplicate of The Lutheran Study Bible, only in smaller print and a smaller size. They are both 5.25″ x 7.25, weigh 2.75 pounds, and are set in 6 – 8 point type. The cover material is rather unique. It looks and even feels like leather, but it is not. It is actually more durable stuff. It is a synthetic material that allows a lot of custom design work to be done on it. Here are photos of the two compact editions. Which you can order now, in royal blue/black and in chocolate/pink. We anticipate receiving copies here in mid-November. These photos were taken of the actual covers that will be on them, sent to us for review by the printer. You can see the full size image by clicking on the images below, a new window pops up, then click on the photo again to get the full-size version.

The pink and blue covers seems to me to be men (blue) and women (pink) editions. I would rather have the colors be non-gender-oriented. Suggestions include gray and tan covers. Even one-color covers such as all-gray or all-tan. I prefer other colors besides pink and have ordered the blue/black edition. I am looking forward to this compact edition!
How about some artwork based on a Cranach woodcut? I’d go for that.
In the meantime, I’ll stick with my black genuine leather, even if it means my baggage goes overweight every time I travel somewhere. . .
I agree with Karen, but I’m still excited to order the blue version! I’m definitely not a pink fan…even if it does contain the word of God.
And some men prefer pink, so it’s all good!
Pink is my favorite color so I am excited that it comes in PINK…
I have already pre-ordered the blue edition to carry to work, but I have some concern about the font size. Even my regular sized edition is sometimes difficult to read without magnifying reading glasses, so this will be a challenge. Is there some place I can go to get an actual sized sample of the font to be used?
It is small type, to be sure. I would not want to read it without reading glasses.
Pink is ok. How about a rich purple color? Red would be good too. Some none gender colors.
@ptmccain Paul, if you’re going to do pink for some men, then you must do a rainbow edition for those other men. LOL
Ouch.
@ptmccain
Hi,
I agree, that we need to move away from the pink and blue stereotypes. How about a travel bible with a latch/buckle like the Zondavan has for there travel bible. So easy on the plane.
I suggest that the black from the blue compact LSB be used as the sole cover with the title embossed in on the front page.
Another example of an imitation leather cover is this Reformation Study Bible in tan imitation leather with embossed lettering on the spine and an image on the front (see picture at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Reformation-Study-Bible-Standard-Imitation/dp/1596382074/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1287462525&sr=8-1
Another example are the NIV compact text Bibles with one color imitation leather covers with simple embossing on the spine and sometimes on the front (see one example of four examples (tan, gray, brown, pink) at http://www.lifewaystores.com/lwstore/product.asp?ISBN=0310615763&crossSell=true
Lastly, it would be great to have the compact edition in sangria imitation leather with the embossed title on the front and on the spine.
Also, the brown imitation leather from the pink/brown compact TLSB could serve as a single-color cover with stitchiing around the edges and embossed lettering on the spine and front cover.
