On the Death of A Diabolical Dictator – North Korea’s Killing Fields
Here is something you won’t be hearing much about from the major media. But you need to know.
A look inside the gulags of North Korea. As you watch, remember that many of those being tortured and massacred are brothers and sisters in Christ, members of Christ’s body. “The number of prisoners held in the North Korean gulag is not known: one estimate is 200,000, held in 12 or more centres. Camp 22 is thought to hold 50,000. Most are imprisoned because their relatives are believed to be critical of the regime. Many are Christians, a religion believed by Kim Jong-il to be one of the greatest threats to his power. According to the dictator, not only is a suspected dissident arrested but also three generations of his family are imprisoned, to root out the bad blood and seed of dissent.” (source) HT: Justin Taylor.

I’ve been meditating on the differences between Kim Jong Il and Vaclav Havel – surprising how often God throws these contrasts up in the deaths of prominent people, as if to preach a sermon to those with ears to hear. One brought imprisonment and darkness to his people, the other freedom and light. True, Havel was more of a cultural Christian than a true believer, but his decency and ethics were informed by a sense of accountability to God, which is most important in a civil leader but lamentably rare in today’s world, where great leaders -as opposed to mere politicians – seem to increasingly rare.
Sic Semper Tyrannis!
The reason you don’t hear much about this from the major media is that it will force them to admit that Communism is just as cruel and repressive as National Socialism. The same barbarism that goes on in North Korea goes on in the People’s Republic of China and in Cuba. We are all aware of the horrors of the Holocaust (Yes it did happen Herman Otten, I dare you to claim that in front of the WW II vets who liberated the camps), but how aware are we or equally horrified by what is going on right now?
