iBook Edition of The Small Catechism Coming Soon….Really Nice!

Apple released their new publishing tool called iBooks Author and it is designed to allow for the production of iBook textbooks. We thought about it and quickly realized that we should put our number one best selling “textbook” of all time, the Small Catechism, into an iBook edition. This edition will feature all of Luther’s catechism hymns, a complete audio recording of the Catechism and a complete sung version of the text of the Catechism. Pretty awesome. Here’s an early proof of how it will look, a screenshot from my iPad. Enjoy.

I expect this to be out in a couple months. And, no, there is no Android version of the Catechism like this. Somebody tell Google to get cracking on their own iBooks software! Click on the image to see the 1080 version.

This is great news! In the words of Bart Scott: “Can’t wait!”

Please tell me this will be reasonably prices! And, that it is the first of many! The Arch Books seems like a great idea, and I hope that it Twitters/Tweets and generally social-medias to parents, grandparents, and others as well.

$14.99, the maximum price allowed by Apple. The resources in the iBooks edition, if purchased separately, would be around $30.

Looks awesome! What a great use of the new tool!

Is there any way to play the audio by clicking on the text rather than having the player show up after each item? It is purely a cosmetic/design thing and will be a great resource either way.

Since there are two audio options, it works better this way.

Guess I should get an iPod Touch! (Just have Kindle Fire, iPod Nano 3rd Gen and iPod Shuffle (2nd and 3rd Gen). The Kindle edition of the Small Catechism does not have color graphics.

It looks very nice! Love the graphics!

This electronic version looks very promising.

@Karen Apple’s iBooks Author does not support the creation of interactive books for the iPhone/iPod Touch, so this version would only work on the iPad for the time being.

The other issue is that iBooks Author is intended to be read in horizontal format, and it would be very hard on the eyes to use an intereactive iBooks book on an iPad or iPod small screen.
