The Lutheran Study Bible and the Kindle Paperwhite Table of Contents “Problem” – Solution Found!

problem-solvedA few of you who purchased the Kindle Paperwhite ereader have contacted me to report that The Lutheran Study Bible‘s Table of Contents appears to have gone missing in action on the Paperwhite.

Not so.

Here’s how to find it.

  1. You must use the “Go To” command, touch it and then look at what is displayed when you do. Make sure you are the top of the window that is displayed.
  2. OK, now…Look for the phrase “Front Matter” … it is a drop down menu, touch it and you will then see….
  3. Yup…”Contents” Touch that word and you will have the Table of Contents.

Clunky? It sure is, but this is how Amazon chose to handle the TOC on the Paperwhite.

Is it a CPH issue/error/mistake? Nope. Please don’t ask us to “fix” it is because it is not a CPH related issue, it is an Amazon issue.

Other large books behave the same way, for instance, Lord of the Rings does the same thing. You have to navigate to “Front Matter” then look for “contents.”

Big Hint: To make it easier to find the “Contents” you can bookmark the page by tapping on the upper right corner.

In other words, I’m happy to report that you can get to the Table of Contents and that this is most certainly NOT a CPH related error/problem or issue.

It is just the way the “Go To” function works on the Paperwhite and how Amazon decided to make it work with large books.

Hope that helps! Took me several minutes with a colleague to figure this out. It is/was confusing at first, to say the least.

Could you provide similar step by step procedures for TLSB on the Kindle Touch? Thanks!
